God has done some amazing things during the month of June!
The Iquito people had their first ever Pastor/Leadership training! Jeremy with a team of 3 men from the South Carolina Baptist Convention put on the conference. They went to Buena Vista, a neighboring village that wants to reach out to the Iquito and to Nueva Atalaya (Iquito village). Randy Shaw, SCBC team leader, said the thing that most impressed him was the hunger to know more about Christ and God's Word. He said that everyone that attended spent most of their time with their faces down while the sessions were going on because everyone was busy trying to capture every word that was being taught.
Humble Area Baptist Church came and visited several of the Urarina communities. In total having almost 75 Urarina accept Christ through storying the Gospel message. 40 of those being from the Santa Teresa community, I mentioned in my previous post. We know that this only happened because of prayer- God turned hearts that were entangled in fear and so hostile towards us a year ago and He has opened them up and set many of the free. Join us in praying for those that have accepted Christ this month, that they would have a deeper understanding of God's word and a desire to follow closely after the Father. That they are seeds that are planted in good/deep soil, that won't be choked out, scorched or wither away. (Matthew 13).
God So LOVES the Urarina
Humble Area First Baptist Church, TX made a video of their march trip. They did a leadership development/training as well as an eye clinic. It was a really amazing trip and I'm so glad they put together a video of some of those moments. Jeremy and the team were able to begin some solid Biblical teaching with believers, pass out Bibles in URARINA!!, Have a Urarina pastor baptize someone for the first time and much more! Praise the Lord for what he is doing among the Urarina.
I hope they put together a video from their trip down last week. They were able to go into a village, Santa Teresa, that last year we had our semester missionary, Casey Kidd, and national partner- Luis Rois were chased away from the community with machetes. Then during the March 2011 leadership training, 4 men came and told Jeremy that they would welcome visitors now and would like to hear more about God and the Bible. So last week a team from Humble went, were welcome and 40 men, women and children accepted Christ. 15 were men in the community! Praise the LORD! This is such an answer to prayer of so many faithful prayer warriors for the Urarina. We look forward to see what God is going to continue to do among the Urarina.
SPECIAL PRAYER REQUEST
Could you please lift up one of our co-laborers for us? His name is Jacob. He is a pastor in Oklahoma, who has been faithfully coming down to work in the jungle for the past few years as part of their associations strategic partnership. We found out this week that he has tuberculosis and having previously had a liver transplant- it makes his case extremely sensitive. From what the doctors have told him, that there is only a 50% survival rate of cases of tuberculosis with people who have also had a liver transplant. As you can imagine we are so upset by this and were actually encouraged by Jacob yeseterday with his eternal perspective and attitude towards all of it, saying basically that if you've got to die, what better way than because you were doing missions. We have really enjoyed getting to know him over the years as well as two of his children that have also served with REAP. When they come down, its feels like family has come to 'visit' with us. His oldest son is coming at the end of this month, Jacob was planning on leading this team but will not be now, because of all of this.
Would you take some specific time before the Lord in prayer for Jacob, his family, the doctors that are treating him and the medications he is taking and also for the Iquito people that their association has adopted.
We can't say enough to really relate to you how much we would deeply appreciate you going before the thrown with this. As Jacob put it...PRAY ON and may God be persuaded by the MULTITUDES praying on his behalf!
